The story follows Miles Logan (Lawrence), a master jewel thief who hides a massive diamond at a construction site just before being apprehended by the police. Upon his release from prison two years later, he discovers that the site has been converted into a high-security LAPD precinct. To retrieve his loot, Logan masquerades as a transferred detective, Malone. The film’s tension and comedy derive from Logan’s struggle to maintain his cover while inadvertently becoming a highly effective, albeit unconventional, law enforcement officer.
