Directed by Justin Lin, F9 (also known as Fast & Furious 9 ) is the sequel to 2017's The Fate of the Furious and the tenth installment in the main franchise. The film opens with Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) living a peaceful, off-grid life with his wife, Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), and his son, little Brian, believing he has left his dangerous past behind. However, tranquility is short-lived. The crew learns that Cipher (Charlize Theron), the master cyber-terrorist who manipulated Dom in the previous film, has teamed up with a new threat: Otto, a wealthy head of state's son who possesses a dangerous program called "Project Aries".
