The film was a massive undertaking. Backed by , the Hollywood giant, it was one of the first major Indian films to be co-produced and distributed by a big American studio. It had Akshay Kumar and the rising star Deepika Padukone in a double role, the music was composed by an ensemble of artists including the acclaimed trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and it featured the iconic Chinese actor Gordon Liu.
