Re-foaming (see Step-by-step below).
If you are looking for that classic 70s-90s rock sound, fixing a pair of Cerwin-Vega AT-40s is an excellent project.
If you tell me which component is damaged (woofer, tweeter, or crossover), I can help you find the specific re-foam kit or replacement part you need. If you are unsure if they are worth repairing, let me know: Are you using a vintage amplifier ? Do you mostly listen to rock ? Cerwin-Vega's legacy of high-quality audio
The crossover network uses capacitors that dry out over time. This affects sound quality, leading to "muddy" bass, rolled-off highs, and a general loss of clarity. While less urgent than refoaming, a "crossover recap" is often recommended to restore the speaker's original sonic balance.
