During her student years, she faced rejection from certain artists, particularly cisgender women, and encountered political violence regarding her name change and the recognition of her gender identity. Such experiences shaped her understanding of the barriers trans artists face within institutional spaces. "Sofia admits that she produces more without the support of institutions like school or museums," one interview explains, "since from her perspective, the themes of bodily autonomy, desire, sexuality, and pleasure are still considered taboo or 'heavy topics'".
